David Epstein is the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller RANGE: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World, and of the New York Times bestseller The Sports Gene: Inside the Science of Extraordinary Athletic Performance.

He was previously an investigative reporter at ProPublica, where his writing topics ranged from drug cartels to poor scientific practices. Before that, he was a senior writer at Sports Illustrated, where he wrote or co-wrote many of the magazine’s most high-profile stories, including the revelation that Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has used steroids.
